Hey guys. I just replaced the TFI on my tc and while i was under the hood i put a k&n filter on. but now the idle fluctuates really bad and the car tries to kill. when i first drove it i thought it was just the computer getting used to the new air filter and kept driving and it smoothed out. but i tried to drive it the other night and it was undriveable. the car would barely run. did i forget to do something when i put the filter on or is my VAM going bad or what? thanks

The first things to check are did you plug the electrical connector back into the VAM?

Next check the hose from the back of the VAM to the Compressor inlet tube. Is it truely securely on at both ends. Real easy for that thing to slip. Also check that hose for holes and wear spots.

If you had the intercooler off, check it for hose connections and clamping.

Did you adjust the TPS and base idle? Did you disconnect any vacuum lines?

hey rpratt. do you know of a good mechanic around here that knows about these cars in case mine really has problems that i cant fix myself. The mechanic friend i took my tc to a month ago told me to get that car out of here because after two days of working on it he couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. i was going to try like Duthler ford or something next. any ideas?

Hey guys i checked the hose behind the VAM and it was fine. The connector is in also and i checked all of the vacuum hoses. everything seems to check out. do you guys have any other ideas. The car runs perfect until about 6 minutes into driving them it bucks and jumps real bad like i am hitting the break hard. The rpm gauge never drops though. after about 2 minutes or so of that it will clear up and run perfect the rest of the way there and back. I hope to pull the codes tomarrow and see if i get anything helpful but today i am going to put the stock airbox back on and see if it changes. anybody got any ideas why it runs good for a while then runs bad then back to good. Thanks

Steve, I didn't check back to see if you had responded.

Give me a call and I'll come see if I can help figure out what is wrong.
