I got a 87 T.C. Modifications included in my signature.
Its running hot at the moment. I've noticed my fans are not turning on. Is it common that these things need a new fan relay? I just don't want to shell out a $100 (autozone) for a new relay.
I've ordered one from Summit Racing that cost $30 that pokes into the radiator.
Next, I've noticed when the temp reaches 3/4 the way up on the temp gauge that the car runs really, really awesome. Its like it want to run hot. Whats up with that ?

How do you know it is running hot? The factory gauges are known for being inaccurate.

And have you done any testing on the fan circuit per the article in the TECH Articles. It will tell you how the fans should operate and some diagnostic steps you can take. If it is running hot, that might be related to your question about running with no 02 sensor. There is also an article on repairing the relays in the IRCM (fan relays and others) if that is in fact a problem.
Might want to get an 02 sensor installed and then see if you actually have a temp. problem

as long as the oil and the air coming in stays cool, ALL engines perform better when they're hot.....up to a point, of course.

O.K guys. I already got my aftermarket relay and changed the electric fan to a flat/pan cake style fan. Boy what a difference! Its really running cooler as the factory gauge shows. Tonight (55*F) I ran her pretty deep, long and hard (Ha, Ha). The gauge ran just below the center mark.
I could tell it was getting hot previously because of the " tink, tink" sound coming from the exhaust pipes ect...

Its running awesome without the O2 sensor!
I bought it this way but questioned the fact. Thats why I asked.
It also already had the 3" downpipe and other mods except the Walbro 255.

It has idled high (2K) at stop signs/redlights but I just let out on the clutch and it will drop the RPMs to around 12-1300 (Insight on the hi revs is welcome here,... please Smile

Get an o2 sensor, it will run worlds better.
It is one of the dominant sensors for the EEC, so for cruising and idle, it makes a difference.
