i just so happen to work with someone who bought a 88 turbo coupe brand new and crashed it after only 25,000 miles and it has been sitting ever since.
question is:
what is still good?
engine
tranny/clutch
turbo
rearend
would everything have to be gone thru and would it be worth the trouble?
i'm guessing the brakes/rotors/struts and etc.. should be ok
this car is about a 9 hour drive for me.
thanks

You'll probably never know untill you try to get it running and drive it and it will greatly depend on how long it has been parked. 20+ years of freezing and thawing can be hard on a car. If its going cheap it might be a good investment on the possibility that you could get it running. I have paid 300.00 for TC's that don't run just to get a certain part.

What kind of shape what parts are in depends on how long it's been sitting and where. If it's been out in a field for years there is going to be a lot of rust on the bottom side including brakes and suspension and lower body parts. The engine may or may not be locked up.
I think it would be safe to say that most things would have to gone through, but much could be salvageble with a little work. Rotors can be cleaned. Calipers rebuilt. Motor torn down, cleaned up, put right back together with minimal new parts. If the mice or the weather didn't get to it, the interior could have some real nice pieces.
If it was kept in a nice climate controlled garage, it could be a great find [Image: biggrin.gif]

Hey Iflip,
Did you ever get your car running? I remember you were broke down on the service road or something and had trouble with your engine not running right.

yes the car is running,i'm missing the spring that is in vam hose. so when i run it hard i guess that hose is collapsing. i just haven't had time to drive it. i went from almost getting laid off to working 2 jobs 7 days a week. money is good now though.we had a plant meeting and it looks like we may be caught up in april. then i can drive and work on my car more.so everybody keep buying GE light bulbs i need the money. hahaha.

Iflip, did you get that TC? If you don't get it, I know someone who'd be interested. [Image: biggrin.gif] Hope you don't get axed. I went through that at my work and was jobless nearly a whole summer (which was actually kinda nice except for the no money part) a couple years back.
