Wouldn't you think that if it really was a "one of a kind" pace car that they might have put the FMS 140 speedo in it?
1988 TC 5 speed, Dark Blue
Build date 5/88.
140 mph Ford Motorsport Speedometer
Tripminder
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Kirban Adj. Fuel Pressure Regulator
K&N Air Filter
Gillis Boost Control Valve
New rebuild- .030 over pistons.
SS valves(1.89/1.59).
Center Force Stage II clutch.
ARP head studs.
Crane roller cam .450 lift.
Gutted upper and ported lower intake.
Ceramic coated and ported E6 exhaust.

In the description they say "You see Indy Pace Car Copies But not Nascar Copies" which leads me to believe its a copy.

But then they say Its Authentic.

So are they as confused am I am?

I suspect it is real.

My memory isnt clear, and I cant confirm the source for this, but I beleive there was a story with this car. It was damaged on the drivers side quarter during the season, and was repaired. The sticker seen on the drivers side versus the full logo on the passenger side seems to confirm this.

I'm sure it may have paced the Nascar race, but it probably also paced everything at the Glen that year.

It might be one of a kind, but unless you are into Watkins Glen, its probably nothing special. Ford (and GM, Chrysler, ETC) give out pace cars to tracks all over the place.
Several tracks I know well auction theirs off for charity (they usually go for used retail prices), or they are to be returned.

I checked a copy of "45 Years of Thunder" and there was no mention of any limited, special models. That does not mean there were not any, just that the book didn't mention them.

I agree with Bob on this one.

The seller is hyping it up pretty good and I question his claims of it having a "special computer" and that it was suppose to be destroyed but "slipped through the cracks"
I don't see anything special about this car other than it is a stock TurboCoupe with a decal package that may be of interest to someone near the track.

He also is trying to compare it to an Indy Pace Car and I don't think that it is a fair comparison because the Indy Pace car replicas are a nationally known and factory built car and that is what makes them a more valuable commodity.

Watkins Glen did have a white Turbo Coupe for their Pace Car in '87 or '88(saw a bit of a race a few months ago on Speedvision). As the others have mentioned I doubt its anything special, probably a stock TC from the local Ford dealers lot. But it does make it a interesting car.
