Does anyone know if its the same as the 93 4 cyl mustang? I had my org burn out and swapped in one from my 87 donor TC, now the fan runs all the time when the motor is running. Not when the ign is on tho, only running.

The IRCM is identical to one used in a whole bunch of other Ford cars. Unfortunately I don't know which ones; sounds like a good addition to the FAQs for someone who wants to do a litte research.

Don't trash the bad one - they're repairable, and I've just about finished the article that includes schematics, theory of operation, and parts list. Stay tuned!

Which fan runs constantly with motor running? I assume you mean the main fan on the pass. side, right? The following is based on the pass side fan running:

Since the fan only runs with motor running and doesnt run with key on, motor off, the problem is almost certainly not the IRCM. A stuck / contacts welded shut relay in the IRCM would run the fan all the time, even key off. Since the fan only runs with motor running, the signal circuit from the EEC to IRCM is operating correctly. For some reason, the EEC is telling the IRCM to turn on the fan. Try this: with motor running, disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT and see if the fan stops running. If it does, ECT is likely bad, or a wiring problem exists between the ECT and EEC.

How does the car run when cold? Smooth, or does it run poorly until it warms up?

fan uns with the coolant sensor in the heater hose off or on. the car runs fine otherwise.
I should mention that its a 93 stang with an 87 TC motor/trans.
I think I allready tossed the original. Autozone sells a "relay" for 12 bucks, but Im sure its not the right one.

Did the TC have the auto (digital) climate control? The sensor in the passenger side of the engine compartment inside the heater hose is used for the climate control, and only that system. Unless you changed something.

The engine coolant temperature sensor that Jeff asks about is the sensor mounted between injectors 2 and 3 that is under the upper intake.

According to the plan I followed from the stinger site, th mustang uses the ect in the heater hose to turn the fan on.with the IRCM that was in the car originaly, the fan came on when hot and cycled normaly. The module went south and I replaced it with the TC module, thats when the fan started running with the engine running. Its quite possible that I have a wiring issue.

There are a few different versions of the IRCM. Are the part #s on either of them? Are they the same? IRCMs also go by a letter designation. 87-88 TC used the "J" IRCM. I think there is also a "K" version, and possibly more. If no part #s present, maybe call a dealer and ask the parts guy if the TC and Stang use the same IRCM.
