I was actually going to fill the tub up with water and put a little dye in it so I could then dip the seat into it. Hopefully it wont come out like tie dye, but I am going to give it a try on the spare interior that I have. I also was looking for the red interior, but only found old similar looking faded material. Good luck.

I had trouble finding it locally but I used VHT's vinyl dye on my seats after a thorough cleaning. The color was Deep Rose Red and it was almost an exact match. It appears that they may have changed the color name to Red Satin:

Here's a pic of the interior before I sold the car. This was about a year after I dyed the seats.

Shane,
No need for PM... We can talk right here in the open. No complaints at all! I am satisified with the material I got from you. All is good.
However, folks need to understand that there is risk involved especially when buying used, and what doesn't look faded on the selling end, can look faded when matched against less faded material.

It doesn't look like you can order it from the site I referenced but the correct number should be SP-959 (VHT VINYL DYE-DARK ROSE RED SATIN). It looks like you can get it here http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/VHT_VI..._3161.html for $8.35 a can. I only used one can for the front and back seats (approx. 3-4 light coats). If you're doing the carpet or anything else pick up a second can.
I tried the Duplicolor (Burgundy) and it was a shade or two darker but definitely easier to find.

It says in the notes "Not for use on cloths or fabrics".
That makes me wary. The last thing I want to do is make my car look worse, trying to fix it. Especially since it doesn't look THAT bad right now.

I did see that but mine were fine for over a year. I did apply several light coats and brushed the fabric after each coat. I waited a day or so before reinstalling the seats and never had a problem with it bleeding or staining. In fact, if I ever get around to helping my father-in-law with his '83, I'll definitely use it again as his also has a red interior.

It's a shame you are not closer... I would love to see it in person, before I take the plunge...
