Intercooling an 85TC

I have a Motorsport Front Mount sitting in the trunk that I pulled off my 88TC and would like to put it on my 85. The car is techincally an 85.5 because it has brown top injectors which are original according to the last owner. I'm not sure what computer I have though and was wondering if I have to put in the LA3 to accomodate the intercooler? Also by putting on the intercooler I would like to bump the Gillis Valve up to about 18psi. Anyone know if this can be done safely? I am still running the smaller if that makes a differance. Thanks

You should be good to go assuming the use of premium fuel. You can use your stock computer and would have to if you keep the small VAM.

If you go with an LA2 or LA3, get a large VAM to go with it.You need to match computer, injector size and VAM size. You could then also add an ACT sensor.

Your current computer is a PK

Both my previous 85.5' and my current 86' have PC1 computers in them. The few 85'5 speed's that I have seen in the JY's have had the PC1's. Steve

This may help. I have a late 85 (85.5) also. I use the front mount intercooler. Ford sold the PE EEC as a Motor Sport upgrade for our cars, using the small air meter, with or without the intercooler. The PK computer is more agressive then the ones found in the 83,84 & early 85's. The PE is more agressive (not much) then the PK by adding a small amount of timing and raised the rev limiter. I'm running the PE with a large air meter like the SVO.

You may want to stick to the PC1 for now. That, plus the IC, will be fine for 18 psi on the Gillis.

I've even run 18 psi and NO IC in my 86 before with no problem.

If you want the LA computer, you will have to add the ACT sensor, bigger VAM and a few other things to avoid getting codes.

Turbojet and Keith, thanks for the heads up on the computer. I just recehcked the book and I was looking at 85.5 but I think it's talking for the automatic trans for the PK computer.

I'll look at the one from my TC. Maybe it is a PC1.
