I have a 1987 Turbo Tbird. On the intake manifold there is 4 sensors 1 on the top and 1 in the side and 2 in the back ,one is a water sensor but the other one appears to be some sort of air sensor it is on the back side middle of the intake going into the air port I looked at a friends turbo and he has 1 sensor just water and this hole is plugged. The Ford dealers picture shows 1 sensor water only.does anyone know what the other sensor is????HELP ME HELP ME !!!!!

I'm pretty sure the one in question is the Knock Sensor. I forget whether it's the top or bottom sensor, but it's definately "in the back" or closest to the firewall. hope that helps

"The knock sensor on my '86 points at the strut tower."

??are you sure?? if that's the case, there must be a difference between the 86 and 87-88s.

Golden Bird: I almost said do a search, but sometimes that is tricky for newbies.
I found your answers, but instead of cutting and pasting your solutions to this response, and doing the work for you; I'll tell you where to find them. Familiarize yourself with the search engine, and learn how to pick and choose keywords.

Do this: click on General Discussion; towards the top/right is a link to the search engine, click on that(instead of waiting around for the search engine to go thru all of the forum headings, I start with checking GD only) type in "KNOCK SENSOR LOCATION"
wala!!
after checking the couple old posts that come up, you'll have your answere, and yes it looks like 86 and 88's are in fact different; good call XR7.

Definitely, '86 is different from '87/'88.
'87/'88 has a air charge temp sender, '86 doesn't
'86 has a radiator fan switch, '87/'88 doesn't

Knock sensor on '86 is located on outside (towards shock tower) of lower intake, '87/'88 is on the back side (towards firewall).

Both have a water temp sender.

But I can only account for 3 sensors in the intake for either series. It would be interesting to know what your fourth sensor is intended for.
