i am too. im not sure if there was a communication error, but all my stock gauges do work as well.

i just also have aftermarket gauges installed in addition to my factory gauges.

i kept the factory oil pressure gauge hooked up, i just used a "T" fitting so that i could add the mechanical oil pressure gauge too.

And im drilling out a hole in the T-stat housing to mount the factory temperature gauge sending unit. i realize thats not the best, but, its better than it not working at all. And you cant use a "T" fitting (not really) in the coolant system.

To be honest, those gauges can't really ever be that accurate, by design.

But i agree, im like you guys. i like things to work too. Thats why i went thru the additonal work and time to keep the factory gauges alive.

But i would rather know if my engine is really overheating, than if my door is ajar. LOL [Image: biggrin.gif]

So, the system sentry had to go, for me.

Since I am planning on this modification and everyone seems to be saying their gagues read low I did a little digging. In addition to the 7805 regulator a 7806(6v)is available. Our old gauges are likely aged to the point that they may be a little lazy. So possibly a little more voltage would do the trick. When I convert mine I'm gonna try the 7806.

Ditto that! Be sure to let us know! My guages are incredibly low, it's worse than with the IVR! I'm almost tempted to head to the boneyard and grab one...

Hey guys,
See my post about this problem under "electronic mods" on the general discussion forum, and let me know what other problems you have.
N8,

That resistor wire may be the problem if it drops too much voltage so the 7805 only sees 6 V or so. If I remember correctly, the input voltage to a 78xx series reg needs to be some minimum voltage above the regulated output voltage for the reg to function correctly. Maybe just find a 12 V wire somewhere nearby to send to the reg input instead of using the original resistor wire?

You are correct, the 7805 regulator needs a minimum input voltage to output the steady 5..of course i can't remember the voltage right now...however the resistor is on the Output of the 7805, in parallel with the guages... so you'll get a voltage drop across the resistor, which is equal to 5 volts (i think, if i did the calculation right) and 5 volts to the guages... what the problem could be, is that the voltage drop over the resistor is too much, stick like a 27 ohm in there maybe?

Hey JT, off the subject but did you use a "T" fitting for an oil pressure gauge? If so what were the measurements and did you use brass? Thanks!

I'm not JT, but I do have a mechanical oil press gauge hooked up with a T fitting so my original gauge also works. I just got a brass fitting from the hardware store. If I remember correctly, the Ford sender is 1/8" NPT.
