Installing bo port 1.9 cam ? Shims

Hey everyone do u guys know how many shims you have to run with a bo port 1.9 cam?
88 5 speed TC
-3" DP,lowered, 255 Walbro, Gillis valve, Cobra R's, bondo/rust, Stinger's PIMP Ecu

Do you mean shims that go under the HLAs? If so, then it all depends upon the clearance you get between the rocker and cam. There is no universal answer. Mine ranged from .040-.055 but that was an unknown mileage head. Bo recommends clearance to be under .040 I think.

Yeah those shims under the HLA's. We didnt have the instructions last night and were trying to figure out the install procedure with those shims. At first we had .090 worth of shims in there I believe. After reading your post we realized it was wayyyy too much. We only had .060s and .030s and possibly Bo Port maybe sent my buddy more than those 2 sets of shims?? Im guessing each rocker may have to be shimmed more that others depending on the condition of the head/valve train.

When you say .040-.055 are you referring the thickness of the shims used? Or are you talking about the gap between the rocker and HLA should be around .040-.055..I believe your talking about the shim thickness.

I hate when that happens lol appreciate that gesture though. I ended digging around and found this info http://www.boportforum.proboards.com/ind...thread=572 we were not compressing the hlas.Now we know that you should have between.. 030 and. 050 between the rocker and cam. We were just naming shims in without actually compressing them.

Let us know your results/thoughts of the bo port 1.9 cam. I am interested in buying one, just would like to get a good baseline with what I have first. Also not sure if for $500 or so I would rather just put this money towards a folvo head or not? Be interested to hear your results!

Will do, I know this cam produces good power once its installed right. It idles now but doesnt pull correctly, but my buddy hasn't pulled the valve cover to do it the correct way yet but once it happens ill let you guys know for sure.

Did a cam on my sons 2.3 76 mustang. Those mustangs that never should have been called mustangs.
Don't remember how I got the shims right but the hardest part was getting the timing belt right. I do believe it will run a notch off but you would think you were missing a cylinder. bobbymac
