More likely the brake light switch is bad, or one of the wires at the switch connector has broken internally due to the constant flexing they experience when using the brakes.

Im with Jeff. Mine was broke. I ended up jamming the broken piece of wire into the connector and taping it cause I couldn't get it soldered.

While the switch itself may be bad, it is more likely that one of the wires going to the switch connector is broken, possibly inside the insulation where it wont be obvious. If that is the case, just fix the break. If the switch is bad, replacement only takes 10 minutes laying on your back under the dash.
