I have an IHI on my 2.3T Ranger and am running without water lines. Be sure to let the motor run for a while if youve had a hard run, before shutting it down.
This being said, if it is designed with lines, the best thing is to keep the lines. I cant get the hex plug out of the block for the coolant return. Thats the only reason Im not using lines right now. Temporarily, Id say it should be fine.

I almost sure that they could be used without water.
I upgraded to a T3 with water and recently upgraded again to an Holset HY35(great turbo pulls strong to the redline @ 23lbs of boost). The HY35 is a bigger turbo and it only has oil as a lube and to cool. I think it's OK just make sure that you let the turbo cool for a minute before you shut it off, and a few minutes if you were out doing some hard driving.

I disagree. The T3 can be run without water (even though I still wouldn't) but the IHI won't last long without water cooling.

Everything I've seen suggests that the IHI was designed for water cooling and won't last long without it.
T3's OTOH don't seem to care.

It surely not a long term test, but I ran my IHI without water for nearly a month while I was piecing together a T-3. YMMV

Even though you are in a crunch for time right now, I would not run an IHI long without water cooling. Water cooling for a T3 is optional....it is not for an IHI....it was designed for the long term to have it.
