Looking at the turbo housing (intake side), can that whole outer piece be turned to face the opposite direction?
Without taking it apart it just looks like a housing and facing another direction wouldn't affect the flow.
Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

You can loosen the compressor housing bolts and reclock the housing.

Forgive my ignorance. I just bought the turbo and I'm not brave enough to start taking it apart yet.

So are you talking about the 4 bolts mounting the oil-feed section to the exhaust compressor section?
I'm looking at the 6 bolts holding the ambient intlet + fresh air outlet housing on.
That outlet mounts directly to the TC intercooler.
On my car that means I'll need an immediate 90* angle and cross the engine on the way to my front mount intercooler.
If I can turn that housing 180* then I could run my intercooler lines behind and under the engine, out of the way.

BTW this is for a 2006 Focus.

This pic is not an IHI turbo but you will understand http://natomessageboard.com/uploads/0000...gturbo.JPG

Loosen (a turn or two, don't remove) the bolts that hold the compressor housing (cold side) to the center section backing plate. Once loosened, you should be able to gently rotate the cold side housing to the desired direction. When aligned as desired, tighten the bolts

NOTE: the center section must remain oriented so the oil supply is on top and the oil return is pointed down

I used to host a weekend request show (FM radio) in Fairmont, WV.
I can also recall seeing a gray/black '84-'86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe at a Subaru dealership in those years. The only thing that kept me from buying it was the automatic transmission.
I always wondered what happened to that Turbo Coupe.
