i know that the downpipes for the t3's can be made to fit on an ihi....but what about the other way around? if i were to get ATR's ihi downpipe and wanted to upgrade to a t3 later on would i be able to modify the everything to fit?

Well I'm pretty sure ATR sells the downpipe which bolts to the back of the turbo...The bolt patterns on the back of the IHI are different from a T3, IHI is a 4 bolt pattern, T3 is a 6 bolt pattern. I bought the Sacramento Mustang downpipe, it bolts to the bottom of the wastegate elbow, and it was interchangeable from IHI to T3, when I did the T3 swap. This downpipe is probably not interchangeable if it bolts to the back of the turbo...

i'm just a little confused about the whole setup i guess since i've never actually seen a picture or either one(except for the one attached to my car)......it just made sense to me if you could use a t3 downpipe for an ihi why not the other way around. since the t3 is a 6 bolt pattern is there any way to just drill out two more holes? what about the t3 downpipe that atr is making for our cars? would you be able to adapt that to fit the ihi like you do the SVO downpipes?

The ATR downpipe eliminates the exhaust elbow. The ihi and t3 downpipes are laos different in how the wastegate works in the pipe itself. Here is a pic of my new hybrid and the old ihi exhaust sides. You can see the bolt pattern difference.

The IHI has the wastwgate flapper inside the turbine housing.

The T-3 Has the wastegate flapper inside the elbow.

ATR makes both styles, but the IHI version does not have a flapper, and the T-3 one does.

If you use downpipe that bolts to the stock type outlet (2 bolt flange), you can swap between the two turbos by slotting the holes a little. The IHI bolt pattern is slightly wider. Most aftermarket downpipes are already made slotted.

thanks guys for the input. i'm still pretty illiterate when it comes to the whole turbo thing. with the weather taking a turn for the better i've been really anxious to start working on the car again without freezing off my fingers so i was just trying to get the best of both worlds. That picture helped thanks glenn
