Ignition switch problem!

My ignition switch is all screwy! With the key out the little piece that you turn with your fingers to crank the car will rotate 360 degrees and will sometimes start the car if you try for a while. Then when you put the key in and the car is running, if you bump the key it kills the engine! Anyone had this problem? Do you think I need to replace the whole ignition switch or maybe just the lock cylinder? Thanks!

I would start with just the lock cylinder it is pretty easy.Remove the 4 screws in the bottom of the column shroud. You may have to remove the trim imedeately around the column on the dash,to get to the back 2.When you get it off, put your key in the switch and turn it to the run position, then get yourself a really small phillips screwdriver or big paper clip, and on the bottom of the column where the lock slides into therte is a pin on a hole. You have to push the pin up towards the lock.Push it way in while you are using the key to pull the lock out, after you get it a little loose you will have to pull the paperclip back out before the lock comes all the way out.The new one will be ready to put in out of the package,so don't turn it until you get it in.When it is all the way in,you will hear the pin click back into the hole and you will know it's locked in.then just re-install your plastic and you are done.Although if you want, and your ignition switch hasn't been replaced yet,you should go ahead while you are in there. It's just one clip and 2 screws and it's in.I just got one from advance it was only 8.99.I think the lock tumblers go for like $12.Good luck, let us know what you get.

Uhh, I think there are five screws - three on the right and two on the left. Otherwise, I completely agree.
