88 turbo coupe ignition switch wires melt to eachother at the switch.anyone have this problem?
I have replaced this switch and wires about 3 times in about 4 years.and I don't drive her much.
can I install a relay to solve this? from my understanding this is a common problem. Any other ideas

Stock, all the current for the headlamps and fog lamps runs through the ignition switch. Lots of guys (and girls too I suspect) have rewired their headlamp and foglamp circuits so that they are powered from new separate fused circuits and controlled by a relay. The relay is then turned on by the stock headlamp circuit and the stock foglamp circuit instead of driving the lamps directly like stock. I believe this pretty much solves the problem.

Did that and still have the problem. I rewired head lights and fog lights, still melted the wires to the switch.

Pardon dumb questions: What did you use for the source voltage for the new circuits? Where physically did you hook it up?

The lighting circuits don't go through the ignition switch with the exception of the turn signals and the coil of the flash to pass relay.

The problem usually goes away when you replace the ignition switch, the fact that it didn't may indicate that there is high resistance in the ignition switch connector or something that operates with the switch in RUN is overloading the circuit. I suggest checking each terminal in the connector very carefully for problems with the wire connections and the physical connection between the terminals and the switch spades. My favorite suspect for overload would be a worn out HVAC blower motor but it could also be bad connectors in other circuits connected to HOT IN RUN fuses. Sorry I can't be more specific but the problem usually doesn't recur once the switch is replaced and the switch connector is known to be in good shape.
