I would like to get my tbird running again even if it means using a toggle switch or a set of them.
I have a Haynes for the car but still unsure of what wires to use. Or which way to wire them to the toggles.
With little luck finding a steering column in a local junk yard I can get a rebuilt one for 125 with the core turn in.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't really understand what you want to do. Is this the car that was trashed in a break-in?. What damage was done to the steering column wiring, what is left for you to work with?

The ignition switch was badly damaged and I was looking for a cheep way to start the car. Using toggle switches. I don't know what wires to use. But there is a place here in Lawton that will sell me a referb column for 125 after the core turn in.

Personally I'd just get the column to avoid having to cut anything up and get things back to normal.
I'm sure someone else has a column here as well but you have to deal with shipping.. and the wait time :-)

There were a few wires that were cut when it got broken into when they tried to steel the car. Lucky for me that car dose not like starting when it is cold out.

It will be fairly difficult to use toggle switches to start the car because of the multiple connections that have to be made by the switch, so I suggest you use the switch in the steering column. Did they punch the ignition lock? If you take off the column covers the actual switch is located below the lock. Is the switch damaged? If so replace the switch. Reconnect any wires that were cut. The switch itself can be operated without the lock in place. It is connected to the lock by a short linkage which moves when the key is turned. You may be able to operate the switch using the linkage or, if not, unscrewing the switch from the column and operating it directly. The switch is attached to the column with Torx security screws. You can either us the proper bit to remove them, cut a slot in them to us a blade screwdriver or drill out the pin in the center and use a regular Torx bit. Note that when you replace the switch and the lock the key should be in the RUN position and the switch should be in the RUN position.
Back to the separate switch question, you could use a toggle switch by connecting it between the Y wire BR/PK wire at the ignition switch connector. This will put power to the coil, ignition module and EEC when turned on. To activate the starter motor you will need a normally open single pole momentary contact switch connected between the Y wire and both the R/LB and Y/R wires. To start the car turn the toggle switch on and push the momentary contact switch. With this setup the engine should run but no accessories such as wipers, turn signals, back-up lamps, etc, will work. Both switches, especially the toggle switch, should be heavy duty with a minimum capacity of 15 amps.
