Idle adjustment question

In trying to adjust the idle on my '87, I disconnect the IAC to set at 800 rpm per info in the FAQ. When I do this however the car shudders and stalls, am I doing something wrong here?

If it's dieing on you, notch it up to the lowest speed it will run
