I know Ford used to put labels on there rear ends stating ratio and such. I didnt see any on my 8.8. Trying to fix my speedo that seems about 8 mph off (says im doing 50 when im doing 58. I believe my car was a converted auto to t5. as the door code shows this. but for some reason numbers are not adding up. I did the speedo rpm calculater and it shows me like 12 mph off. so either the tach is off or the rear end is off. is there a label on the 8.8?

There should be a tag attached to one of the bolts holding the pumpkin cover on.

Along the bottom of the tag should be 2 sets of numbers. The first one should be the axle ratio (and maybe a code for traction lock) and the second should be the axle size (7.5, 8.8) Post these and I'll see if I can find more specific info.

If the tag is missing or not readable, there is still a method to figure it out. Count the number of revolutions (including partial turns) that the drive shaft turns to turn the axle (wheel) exactly one turn. Example: if the drive shaft turns 3.5 times to turn the axle 1 time, the gears are 3.50.

yea I was thinking about doing the axle spin test il have to look at the rear end for a tag. Pete 87/88 t5 cars came with a 3.55 ratio correct and a 3.73 ratio for the auto?

You are correct on the 87-88 ratios. Somebody could have changed rear ends or gears. If the tag is gone that could be a sign that the cover has been off

the tag had two sets of numbers. the top set was 4330 the bottom was 3SL73A888E26

i could be wrong but im getting 4.11s from the tag with the E2 and that actully is what im getting for speed wise when i do the calculations. this right?

What size are your tires? If they arent stock, this could explain it, even if they are stock, tires vary in roll out from manufacturer to manufacturer (although 8 mph sounds excessive).

well according to www.race-cars.net with a 245/50/r16 or a 25.65" tire a .8 fifth gear and 3.73 inch rear i should be at 64 mph. but i am actully at according to my speedo i am at 50-53 mph. I ordered a 18 tooth gear so hopefully it will fix it.
