I found a bad connection at the steering column. Fixed the connection. Now all three gauges read high. I think I'm going to replace the whole cluster. Odometer doesn't work anyway.

All gauges reading high indicates a bad IVR or bad GY/Y resistance wire. Gauges that sometimes go high for a little to long time and return to normal indicate a sticking IVR.

Hmm. Is the resistance wire anything more than a power wire coming from the ignition? It seemed to be a single thread wire, not a twisted copper wire like most others. (If that makes sense)

It has a specific resistance to drop the voltage going to the IVR to around 8 volts. I forget the actual resistance, but it is on the order of a few ohms.

And now the car is dead. Sad keyless entry worked. Got in and put the key in, heard the chime and then no power to anything. Reinserted the key and the lights came on and heard the CD player come on for a second and then dead again. This car is one electrical nightmare after another. I swear the tranny swap was not this much of a pain. At least with that I could see the problems.

Check your ignition switch -- it is the heart of the whole operation.

Do you think it may have shorted me out? Cause the whole car is dead

There is no worse feeling than a completely dead car. Feels like she passed away during the night Sad

1.Yep, check the ignition switch. If it's never been replaced, just do it (get the Ford part) also check the wiring and connector to the switch.

2. Have the battery checked. May have a cell gone bad overnight. Many parts stores can check them.

3. Check the main cables, look for ANY corrosion in the ends. Replace the cable if you find ANY. BTDT. In 2 days in a garage the car went from starting and running fine to nothing. I was advised, here, to look for corrosion and change cables if I found any. I found a small amount of corrosion in the end of the starter cable. I changed it and all was good.

Might do well to check grounds for good connections as well. There are many to check, but start with the ones on the block, firewall and the battery negative terminal ground.
