IAC question

i went to purchase an IAC for my 88 tc and there were two seperate parts. The actual valve is $60 and there is a spacer for $27. The guy said i wouldnt need a new spacer but i'd rather ask here if it would make any differance if i used the old one and does the spacer serve any important function. thanks

Spacer....didn't know there was one for our cars

Our cars don't use a spacer that I know of.
There are none on my two 88s.
