I was wondering...

I was wondering at something at school while watching one of my friends build an all forged Talon engine for his 92 talon. Why is it that a car like the talon has a smaller displacement, run lower boost, and make more power than the 2.3? And can anything be done about this?

Yes, but is the basic design if the Talon engine 35+ years old?

wow, I didnt know that this engine was that old of a design. But still, is there any way that the power can be increased with simply changing to a different style intake? For example, what kind of changes in performance would I be expecting with bob's custom modified inline lower with fuel rail and 65mm throttle body? Im just trying to figure out how I want this engine doneup.

How much power does the talon make stock?

If you engine is still basically stock (unported head, unported E6 or no header, stock cam, IHI turbo) then you probably aren't going to get much gain, if any.
The intakes and TB are not the bottlencks to flow compared to the exhaust side and stock head. you would d better to just hang a bigger turbo on it and inprove the IC

As I thought I remembered (I once had a boss who was pissed that my TC put out more power than his Eclipse), the Talon puts out (with the turbo DOHC) from 180 - 195 HP; the 87/88 TC is rated 190. The torque on the Talon is 203, the TC is 240.

Looks to me that the venerable old "pinto" engine is more than holding it's own. I sure don't call that "so much more" power.

The 4g63's head has godlike flow numbers compared to our's. I've seen bone stock heads flow 270cfm intake @ .400" (!!) where our's barely break 150cfm at the same lift. Even our praised Essy head only flows about 200/150cfm I/E.

Since hp is related to the amount of air you can flow into / out of the head, they have us beat hands down in that department. However, this just means that you have to breathe on the motor a bit harder to make the same amount of power. Getting a well-ported head and matching it up with a good cam can go a long ways, too.

That makes since why they make more power at only 6 pounds. If ford would have went through with the dohc project then these car would be legendary, but they diddnt (b@$t@rds).
