From my last post:
I had a turbo not spool up and the wastegate arm was broken. I fixed it with the suggestion PeteD gave me (thank you), but now the turbo sounds like this horrible whirlling noise. This doesn't sound like a good thing. PLEASE HELP

The large turbos will sound like a siren in the distance when you 1st drive off or when it's cold out. The heavier more dense air seems to make them louder. You should check the end play in the turbo shaft and look for air or vacuum leaks if the noise is excessive.

Turbos make whiring noises, what makes this horrifying?

If the sound is in any way metallic, pull the compressor inlet tube and check the turbo shaft for end play, in & out. There should be almost no percetible end play and the blades should not touch the backplate. Next check for side play and turn the wheel while doing it. The blades should not touch the housing anywhere.
