on my 85, which uses a 1G alternator, thepulley seems to be shredding the shaft. i can see metal shaving and the pulley seems a little loose. and clue as to the cause? did i tighten the belt too much?

well, sinde it seems its gonna die (too bad after i put in the 95A upgrade kit), how do i upgrate to a 3G?
the article on the site seems to be mostly talking about the 87-88, where mine is an 85 and has a completely different alt bracket. will the 3g just drop in?
what does the external regulator look like?
I already replaced the main wire with a nice 8ga wire to the starter solonoid, so i just need to remove the external regulator and wire in the 3g harness?

and what do you guys think about the ebay alts, i found one brand new 160 amp for like 150$ sometimes i'll see a 200 amp one for that price. too risky?

I did mine with the 130 amp 3G to my 84 TC.Yours will be the same as mine.I gutted the harness from the alt back to the regulator.I saved the green wire to the regulator as this is needed to switch the alt on and off.Its a simple swap.I would get the alt from pa-performance.com and they also have the proper wire harness as well.I ran 6 gauge cable from the alt to the solenoid, the yellow wire from the new harness goes to the big post on the alt for voltage sensing. The green wire goes to the greem wire on the car.The white wire just plugs into the alt itself.Pretty easy and clean install.I also took the existing 10 gauge black wire(orange stripe) that went to the alt for charging and just ran it to the solenoid post. Also to get all the proper
wire ends go to www.madelectrical.com
They have the good stuff.Talk to Marc.

No idea if that eBay alt is good or not. Personally, I would just get a 3G from PA Performance. 100% new, using quality parts. They come with a lifetime guarantee, which you wont ned to use anyway, as they seem to last forever.

Pa Performance IS the way to go. They are great people to deal with, and offer a lifetime warrenty (which was mentioned), and will clock the connectors which ever way you want them to. i actually happened to have a problem with mine about a year or two after getting it, and they shipped me one to use until they fixed mine, and then shipped mine back, and i then used the same box to send the loaner back. The only reason they did that was because i have a polished one, i really didn't expect them to give me a loaner, and honestly i kept the loaner way to long because i had alot going on and didnt have time to change the alt out, and they were cool with that......they got my future business....

couldn't wait, bought the alt from kragen. got the harness from the dealer.
the old IVR was easy to remove. it only had 2 wires that were needed. voltage sense and key on power. the third one was the stator which isnt needed because its on the new IVR.
no modification of the bracket is necessary.
in all an easy install, and the lights no longer dim at idle. [Image: smile.gif]

Yea i got the autolite from kragen. lifetime warrenty, ect ect...
good luck finding a pulley at any parts store. since the 85 has dual pulley instead of the single like the 88, it was impossible to find a replacement even from the dealer.
