I'm over it!!! IT willn't stop running hot

Ok i read the faq's i used fuel line cleaner. Still running hot. OK can the fuel filter could that mess it up. Now I put a new redator(<--spell check)in that helped some, thormostat did nothing, and the heater core it bad. But i bypast that. It run hot mostly a high rpms like on the highway. It is bad at day time to. And it just doesn't heat up right. Like if i try warming it up in the morings it takes forever like 10 to 20 mins. Somebody told me to take out the thormostat. I will most like try cuz i don't have heat now ne ways to it can't hurt. NE HELP will be great. THINKS!

Does your car have the black plastic air dam strip on it, under the bumper cover, right behind the openings in the bottom of the bumper cover. If not, it will run hot on the highway, no matter what you do. I would also put an aftermarket gauge in it You may have a bad sending unit or a bad gauge. It would take about 10 minutes for a stone cold engine to idle to operating temperature.

Taking out the thermostat will not make it run better.
The coolant will flow too fast and not have a chance to cool off in the rad or remove heat from block and head.

If you want a nice even running temp get yourself a Ranger clutch fan and Aerostar shroud from the wreckers.

Bolts right on.
No more up and down temperatures.

What year car? Are the cooling fan or fans turning on when the temp gauge goes over about 1/2 way? Have you run the codes? Could you go into more detail on "takes forever to warm up"? Do you means it runs bad until it warms up or do you just mean it takes a long time for the motor to get warm?

What I'm talking about is an air dam, it sits straight up and down about 2" high and runs from one side of the car to the other. You can see if real clearly in the picture of this guys car.

Besides the other things that have been mentioned above.... Few suggestions:

1) when you replaced the radiator, did you get the proper hose(s) that have the spring inside? If not, the hose will collaspe under hard acceleration thus restricting water flow and causing the temp to rise considerably. Also, be sure to inspect/replace all the heating/cooling hoses, not just the ones to the radiator.

2) did you replace the radiator cap. These system are design specially to work with high pressure and the cap is equally as important as the thermostat. If the cap is not holding 16lbs as required, it too will cause the temp to rise.

3) how old is the water pump?

To help reduce temp, add a bottle of Redlines Water Wetter http://www.redlineoil.com/products.htm to the radiator. It can reduce temps by as much as 30 degrees. I've used it for years and it did reduce my temp. Also, if you haven't already, reduce your antifreeze/water mix to around 30/70, being in VA you could even get away with 20/80 mix.

My car is an 88. And no i haven't run the codes cuz i don't have the stuff to do it. And pete no my car does have that. Where can i get one and do they cost alot?

If you are familur with Virginia Beach area, take exit 22 off of 264 (birdneck I think)Stay to the right go down two lights hang another right and hang a left at the gas station on the left side of Virginia beach blvd (sykes road) you will go past some appartments and on your left set back a little bit will be U-wrench-it. It will cost a buck to get in...anyway last week they had a couple 88 birds/cougars and I believe there was at least one air dam. Of course if you don't get it buy sunday I need one for my car also.

I think you can find the air dam on any later aero tbird, it doesn't have to be a TC.
