I bought a scan tool that works on our cars.

I recently broke down and bought a scan tool that will read codes for our cars as well as current vehicles. It works pretty good on ours. It told me I needed a new EGR valve. The cost didn't break the bank. All my vehicles are getting a little age on them so I thought this to be a worthwhile investment. It is the Actron CP9190. It reads OBD1 and OBD2 systems. Just thought I would pass this along.

For someone just wanting to read codes off of one of our OBD1 TC's. The Equus 3145 OBD1 Code Reader will read the codes from all of our TC's 83-88 perfectly, and you can pick them up online for only around $35. I bought mine at Advance for only $25 last year.

I got an INNOVA OBD1 and OBD2 scanner that has all the connectors for different makes and models. It sure makes checking codes easy for the T/C and all my other vehicles.

That would have been nice years ago. I had to use an analog voltmeter and a paperclip to jumper the single wire to the diagnostic port under the hood.

I work at Sears, so it's a shameless plug, but this scanner goes on sale for $199.99 several times a year. Use a Sears credit card and it's $190....I bought one a year ago after I got sick of borrowing and loaning them and it's the exact same thing as what everybody else has for half the money.

I have a older OTC unit that will read either OBDI or II but unless it's a unit that gives data(early '90s on Ford), I grab my Equuis 3145 because I can have it hooked up and codes read while I'm still setting up that OTC...
