Hydraulic Clutch Line

To those of you who have replaced this...how have you gone about getting the line disconnected from the clutch master cylinder? Did you remove the master cylinder in order to pound the roll pin out or were you able to do do this while it is still mounted? This roll pin is the only thing keeping me from driving this car!

IIRC when I converted to a 5 speed the master went in with the hose connected and I just fished it down there.
