Hey guys, can this be buffed out? If nit whats the next best choice besides having to paint it. Painting it is my last alternative.

If you look at the trunk it is faded really bad and looks like peeling clear.

In theory if you got all of the clear off you could buff and polish it up... I don't know if it's all the same paint under the clear?

One of the reasons my TC looks so nice is because I don't have a clearcoat to be peeling off. It also needs to be waxed once or twice a year to avoid the faded tomato color lol.

I can't tell much from that pic, but you might be able to bring it back with a good buff/polish/wax. I would be careful though, the stock color coat that is left after the clear peels off on the 86-88 cars is extremely thin, and it will be really easy to burn through it. I tried it on my '88, and ended up burning through on the roof. I gave up trying to bring back teh stock paint after that and just conceded that it needed a re-paint. Which it will be getting soon.

Looks like the clear coat is peeling. I had several cars do this, the answer from the body shop is always "needs repainted". If its only on the trunk you got lucky, they can usually match the color and repaint the whole pannel and not have blend time in it.

I agree with the others. There is no fix for that other than your last alternative. At least, none that I am aware of.

The body is super straight too. Ugh! What about vinyl? If I just do the top half, how cheap is that?

I was just quoted $600 to rhino it in flat black, but i hear it nmake the car interior hot and adds about 30 lbs.

Hard to tell but can you buff or cleaner wax it and either use wax to make it shine like ultra finish, or carnauba wax. Maybe also tape it up and buff and re clear coat it yourself? Do you have a spare fender or something to practice/test it?

If there is a section to try Rubbing Compound, I have had luck with that. Thurtle makes a good Rubbing compound. Basically a wax base with grit in it, but it does a good job of taking of a fine layer of dull clearcoat or paint. After you use the compound you have to wash and waxa lot more often.
