How much was the 88 Turbo Coupe worth brand spanking new?

I was talking with a friend of mine at work and he said he bought the 85 T-bird for around $12,000 new. It was the V-8, and he thought the turbo went for just a couple thousand more. So I was wondering what the 88 Turbo went for. Anybody know?

Hi Kevin,
I just purchased an 88 with 49,00 miles on it and the guy gave me the original window sticker with it. It went for $18,980. It doesn't have leather or a moon roof. It is an automatic

Wow, even back in '88 that was one hell of a deal! The TC was (and still is in many ways) a very high-tech car.

Just out of curiosity, was the automatic an option that you had to pay for? Usually it is, but in the TC's case it meant giving up 40 hp so I wonder how Ford handled that.

Pete, that sounds a little high. When I bought my '88 new I recall $18K-something (with all options except moonroof.) I don't have the dealer tag but that's my recollection. Of course, age and abuse could be altering my memory... [Image: biggrin.gif]

I don't have the sticker but I have the original owner's invoice from Parkway Ford stating that they paid $18,614.00 for the car, which has all options (including automatic) except sunroof and leather seats. Total cash price with taxes and the dealer ripoff items like service contract and dealer prep and delivery was $19543.00 One thing I don't miss from the late 80's is the interest rate, 60 months at 12.50% APR!

I think that $23K sounds high to me also.
I remember my 86, purchased new, taken out of dealer inventory, was 16K. I tried to get her to find the sticker but I don't think she really had it.

Kev,

I am looking at the original window sticker to my black Turbo Coupe, 5 speed, raven interior no leather, no sunroof but all other options.

It was purchased in NJ and the total was $18465.00. There were option package discounts which brought the price down by $1476.00

So without the discounts it would have been $19941.00 plus tax and license.
