I have asked before, but I want opinions on the trim issue. I have been told that it is not a big deal to take it off to repaint.... however, in the off chance that I screw it up, how much is new? Is it still available from Ford? What is the gauging I would take??

Sorry, 1987 Turbo. Lets say it all has to be replaced. I am thinking worst case senerio. I am going to start the sanding process soon. I have never done anything like this before! I am wondering if it would be worth it to just let the guy who paints it take it off... that way I am not responsible for doing it. I plan on doing a lot of the body work myself to try to save some money.

Well, I would rather take the trim off myself then to let some body work guy do it. I would have all the time I need to carefully take it off while the other guy will rush to get it done most likely. What if he cracks the trim and can't get it anywhere?

Agree with dm22. The side mouldings need a VERY gentle hand to remove without damaging. Chances are you'll do a much better job and have more patience than somebody at the body shop.

But what if I damage it? Can I still get new?

I'm not sure if you can still find it new. Abouyt a year ago a dealer quoted me $182 for the molding for one door. Ididn't ask them to order it but I think I heard it's obsolete through the dealers.

Do a search on this and find the fishing line trick. It can be done just go slow and don't try to bend it by hand. You want it to come off as flat as possible; any bends/flexes will show when re-mounted.
