How much battery voltage?

How much battery voltage does your TC have after you have shut it off and it has sit for little while? I think I may have a charging problem My TC has a little over 12 volts, like 12.18 V. My truck has over 12.5 and I am thinking that the battery in the TC is kind of low. About 6 weeks ago my car died while I was driving it and at the time I felt like it was the altenater. I took the Alt off and went to the local auto parts store and had it tested. They said it was weak, so I got a Re-man alt and put it on,and charged the battery. Fine, no problems. About two weeks ago the car would not start (the starter was replaced about 1.5 years ago).I pushed it off and got it home. The battery was at 11.95 Volts. I charged the battery back up and took the alternater off. I took it to a shop that rebuilds alternaters ,they bench tested it and said it was good. I took the battery out, and took it to them and thay said it was OK too! I put a 12 volt test light between the battery and the positive cable and did a draw test. The light stayed off. I was wondering if a working system keeps the battery charged to around 12.5 volts, or is just above 12 volts OK. I just don,t want to have to push my car off again, it,s heavy.

my car runnign it is usally at 13volts.
Sometiems wil jump to 14 volts.
wioth steros on, all headlights on, and cooling fan on i drop down to about 10volts at idle, i have a 800watt stereo pumpn mos tof the time. as i drive my vltage goes up to aorund 13-14.
i can have my car off witrht eh stereo on for a max of 8 hours at 75% the way up on volume and it stays steady at 12 volts, but dropps with each bass hit but coems back up.

Right after you shut the car off (assuming the batt was being charged by the alt when you shut it off), it will have what is called a "surface charge" on it, and voltage will be in the high 12 V, low 13V range, like 12.8 to 13.2V. Once the batt sits for a while with the small amp draw from the always on stuff, like clock, EEC KAP, etc, or you load it a little, like turning on your lights for a minute and then turning them off, the surface charge will dissipate, and voltage will drop to the low 12V range, like 12.4 V to 12.6 V or so.

From what I understand when the alternater is charging the battery terminals would read 13 to 14 volts. Should it show this amount of charge all the time while it is running? Some times when I check it only shows 12.5 volts while the car is running (no lights on or anything). This makes me wonder if the alt is charging like it should. does it charge all the time?

Do the Ford certified alt output test: Measure batt voltage with the motor off. Start motor, and run at 2000 RPM with no lights, heater blower, etc on. Voltage at the batt should rise to about 2 V over the reading with the motor off. Now, turn on the headlights and blower fan on high (motor still at 2000 RPM). Batt voltage will drop, but it shouldnt drop to more than .5 V above the motor off voltage. (I personally dont like to see it drop to within 1 V of the motor off voltage, but thats just me) If you get these results, your alt is OK, according to the Ford shop manual.
