How does the Strut Mount go together?

I seem to have the same instructions as others who have posted... The instructions reference an assembly diagram on the back... problem is the back of the page is blank!

So... After pondering things for a while and trying different arrangements, I think I have it correct, but would sure like to have some feedback.

The first picture shows the parts, then the rest show how I *THINK* it goes together. Not sure about the metal sleeve bushing... actually not sure about any of it Sad

There was a shorter bushing and a gasket (gasket is in the third picture below) that are used in the 83-86 applications according to the instructions. I'm not sure why the gasket would not be used with the PRC's though... Tempted to use it Wink

What brand struts? What brand mounts? You should be able to get some help from the manufacturer I would hope so anyway).

You can get the Maximum Motorsports caster-camber plate install instructions at their website, the part number is MMCC8388. Couldn't get a link, sorry. I know you're not installing cc plates but studying the drawings may help you out.

From looking at them, I suspect one of your black rubber bumper thingies (probably the one to the right in the third picture, sm5) may well be a bump stop for the top of the strut and not actually part of the mount itself.

This is guesswork so take it with a grain of sand. Hopefully it helps. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks... I'm pretty sure that is the bump stop too since the sleeve only fits in the one end. These are going on the stock PRC struts... the mounts are from NAPA and only say NAPA chassis on them.

I tried looking up Monroe instructions, no luck there. I know several folks have replaced their strut mounts with a similar style mount... hoping one of them will chime in!

Well looks like I had this mixed up... I had the metal sleeve and bushing under the mount and lower cup. On the 87 the 1/2" sleeve is not used. I will see how this lays out this evening. Going to replace the mounts on the weekend.

Well, I'm not sure about the "cup-like thing with the rubber coating..BUT here's what I think:
First install the "mount" into the strut tower, studs up..then assemble as follows:
1. strut
2. "w" shaped bushing is a bump stop..put it on and just slide down
3. 1/2" sleeve
4. cup-like thing
Insert this from the bottom.

From the top..
-slide bigger sleeve into ball-like bushing and slide onto strut shaft.
-install big washer and nut and tighten.

Now that I think of it..the cup-like thing you won't need if you just reuse your stock dust "boots". What the cup-like thing does is take of the space of the stock dust boot top..with is a cup-like thing with rubber coating and a boot attached to it.

Hope this helps

For the next one confused by the strut mount without instructions... this from energy suspension is helpful too.

Wondering how the lower bushing would work since it looks to be much thicker than the rubber that is removed from the cup. The upper bushing looks identical though...
