Thinking about buying these to rid myself of that damn ticking. Seems like a good price, no? Anyone hear of this brand? Are these good?

New HLAs do not need shimmed, correct? If I do install new, do I even need to check them for gap?

Gotta check 'em, just like plastigaging bearings or fitting ring end gaps. It isn't wear in the HLA that can cause the gap to be too big, so being new does nothing as far as gap goes.

So you think I'd be better off just taking them apart and cleaning my current HLAs? If they can't wear out, why replace them? I'm sure they are what is clicking.

I'm going to check oil pressure tomorrow to rule that out. Think AutoZone has the right pressure tester to rent?
