Horrible Day...

Guys - I'm not really big on sharing emotions, but I feel the need to get this out somewhere...

My little nephew, Casey, died earlier today. One minute he was napping... next minute he just stopped breathing. We would have been celebrating his first birthday next week. Obviously we are all pretty devastated at the moment - especially my brother and his wife, and I'll probably be off the board for a few days as I don't really feel like doing much of anything right now except trying to be there for my family. My brother was one of the best dads I ever knew, and he would have died a thousand times over for Casey. He lived for that boy...

I just got home from Baltimore and I'm going in my house, waking my boys up, and giving both of them the biggest hugs and kisses they've ever had. I would suggest that anyone on here who is a parent do the same... every day.

Sorry for dumping this on you guys.

i know about that sense of feeling that you just need to be involved and be there for family. keeping busy helps you stay strong & gives purpose to the daily grind... i dont think my faith could carry me if it was my child.

stay strong, keep busy, and just be there.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Yesterday was his birthday. I spent a lot of time talking to my brother alone. It's going to take a very long time for anyone in the family to heal from this - especially my brother and his wife. This is an older one, but still one of my favorite photos of Casey. He will never be forgotten.

I am fortunate in that I have my two awesome kids to come home to every day. My brother and his wife finally "moved back in" to their house this past Saturday. I know that was hard as hell. Before that they had been staying with a friend. My brother set up a website for Casey. Other than the obvious emotional toll, they are having a tough time financially - doctors and funeral homes aren't cheap... If anyone would like to help them out or just get a better look at how sweet and awesome this boy was, please head over to www.CaseyLeavitt.com . Lots of photos and video on there.

Thanks
