Hood springs sprung? Tighten them?

Hello, the hood springs on my 88 TC have the rear of the hood raised about 3/4 of an inch, and I have them adjusted all the way down with the slot adjustments. I noticed in the center of the spring itself is a slot bolt; is it possible to remove the spring and tighten it up so that it sucks the hood down at the rear where it should be? Anybody have an idea? Thanks!

you have the hood improperly adjusted. i believe you have to raise the rear of the hinge to pull the hood down. keep playing with it and you'll figure it out.

well I initially pushed the springs "down" ( the top rear of hood) so the adjustment bolts are at the top of the slots and it did bring the hood down lower, soooo? No more adjustment in the slots, so raising the springs up and the rear of the hood up, doesn't seem right? They got sprung some from opening and closing it lots when the anti skid relay went out but no one knew what it was, until I found this site....

try lowering the front bolt and raising the rear and then vice verse until you figure it out. i can't remember which adjustment does what off the top of my head. there's also an adjustable stop. you may have to adjust it....make sure there's no crud where it's supposed to seat. if you still think it's the springs, unhook them and see if that helps.

hey thanks 5.0!!! You were exactly right, though I tried it last night late and it didn't work out...looked at it with fresh eyes today and you are exactly right; the front of the bracket rotates upwards (bolts at bottom of adjustment slots)and that throws the hood BACKWARDS and down at the rear of the hood, and the rear bolt has a very small adjustment slot that is not very noticable, and the bracket there has to be pushed down with the bolt at the top of the slot...thanks!!!

no problem. i knew you would figure it out if you tinkered with it long enough. i went through the same thing on my car when i changed hoods.

I had similar issues with mine but, they were both broke when I bought it so had to replace them. .... Hey, does anyone understand why the 87-88 had those crazy hinges..? I mean,.. "look at the design of those things...,"
who was the engineering genius that figured these hinges out..? And, what was the purpose of the extra rod/arm? Am I missing something again?
