High and Low beam w/fog-lights at the same time?

I haven't had much success in searching and hopefully this is a "new" topic...

I notice when the high-beams are switched on, both the high and low beams are on until the lever is released, then just the high beams. This also cuts the fog-lights.

I will be upgrading the alternator to a 3g 130 amp and putting in a painless wiring relay kit for the headlights as well as an additional relay for the fogs. Is there a way to get the the hi-low-fog lights operating at the same time (without holding the switch)?

You can throw a third relay in there, and with some custom wiring you can have what you want. I'm not sure how the heat of having both high and low beams on at once will affect the plastic headlamp lens and the bulb connector though; it may very well get too hot and melt.

Question: Do you want the fog lamp switch to be operational or do you care?

Let me know and I'll scribble a schematic, scan it, and post it.

I would like the fog lamp switch to be operational. The painless harness is complete to the headlamp bulbs with a relay for hi and lo... I'm not expecting to have the highbeams on for any duration, but I would like to finally be able to see!

I guess another option would be to have the Highbeam and foglights operational together w/o the low beam.

A single relay to switch between high and low, either-or, or does low go off when high comes on? Please clarify. Also describe exactly how you'd like them to work. If I get a chance I'll check on this tomorrow at work and reply, otherwise it'll be over the weekend (got to watch the new Flash Gordon premier on SciFi to see how badly they messed it up.

Thanks for the efforts JoeCool! There certainly isn't any rush since I probably won't be doing this until the following weekend!

Currently the stock system will cut the low beams and foglamps when the high beams are turned on.

I will be replacing the stock wiring with a painless wiring kit which will connect to the existing headlight circuit by disconnecting one of the headlamp connectors and plugging that into the harness. It has two relays (hi lo beams) and connects to each headlamp bypassing the stock wiring.

I would like to at least have the foglamps remain on when the highbeams are on and ideally have hi-lo-fog all on when highbeams are selected.

The foglamp switch should retain it's function.

I will be adding a relay for the foglamps also.

Having the high and low beams on at the same time will most likely burn out the bulbs from being so hot, if not melt the lens/housings.

Agreed.....

See the tech article on wiring a fog light relay. There are instructions on how to have the fogs come on automatically whenever lights are switched to high beam (Disclaimer: it is illegal in most, if not all, states to run fogs with high beams, so this is an "off road only" mod)
