HID Headlights

Anyone tried one of the HID kits like offered on eBay? They run about $70 a set delivered, include the ballasts and plug right into the stock harness. They are only low beams, but most who have used them on the Impala forum are pretty happy with them.

I was thinking of getting a set of 9004 and a set of H3's for the fog lights. From what I have read, they run cooler and draw less power while giving off much better light.

Any comments?

Well I did order a set of the 9004 in 6000k color temp (white) and they take all of 5 minutes to install. Mounted the ballasts on one of the headlight studs... the rest is plug and play. All I can say is AMAZING!!! You can finally actually see at night! They aren't quite like in our Lexus... but they are definitely quite good and I can highly recommend them provided an upgraded wiring harness with relays is used.

I got the kit that is only low beam, but I really don't think you would need hi-beams with these! I have an upgraded wiring harness I need to install soon, but the stock harness works for now. I did notice that with the car not running, only the drivers light came on... not quite enough juice on the passenger light to get it lit, but when the car is running, they both fire up fine (3g Alt). I had previously removed the headlamp out warning bulb so I don't know whether that will come on... also when hi-beams are selected, the lights go out as expected since the lo-beams go out then too.

Are they bright enough to attract 'brite' flashes from oncoming drivers? My wife's cavalier has that problem with low beams - its quite annoying - and she also has hi-beams to come back with.

So far no one has flashed... When I first put them in I could see the driver's side was a little high so did a quick adjustment. They seem to be aligned pretty well, when I come up behind someone, the light is on their back bumper, not shinning in their back window.

HIDs are great if they are aimed right, as vegas_ss suggested.

I personally would go for the dual beam setup, which actually isn't dual beam. There is a little motor that moves the bulb up/down.

HIDs are not properly focused when used in light bodies designed for incandescent bulbs. The reflector and lens needs to be designed for HID. If people are flashing you regularly when on low beams you have a problem with your lighting system. It may be as simple as aim, but it needs to be corrected. Flashing them back is not the appropriate response. It's inconsiderate of the other drivers and potentially dangerous. If you were to cause the other driver to have an accident it's on your conscience. I hope you have more consideration for others than that.

The information posted is well over 5 years old... Not sure how far the technology has come from then, but I know that the HID's that I have work great in the 87/88 tbird lenses.

There is absolutely no comparision to 9004 bulbs! You would not believe how much better it is compared to the 9004 silverstar bulbs that were replaced.

I would be concerned if I was blinding or annoying oncoming traffic, but having never been flashed and observing the car at night, I know that is not an issue. I do know I can see the road MUCH MUCH MUCH clearer and condiderably farther compared to the 9004's on hi-beam.
