I'll give you the same advice I give everyone. Go buy a code reader. It will be the best $35 you have ever spent. The problem sounds like a vacuum leak, except for one thing, the check engine light. That light is trying to tell you to check the codes. A TPS will give the same symptoms, and, it is one of the components the computer keeps track of.

Hoses you can readust/check with no more than a screwdriver. If is just that the hose lip is folded in on itself or the hose isn't fully seated or the clamp is loose or off location, that's a free, easy fix. The TPS may give you a code and it does take a voltmeter to test/adjust an old one or set up a new one. A new one will cost money. An O2 needs a code checker, cost money and can be a bitch to change. I'll take the free/easy stuff first. Also see the article in the FAQs on how to pull codes with out buying a code reader, more free/easy stuff.

Badboy I would run the codes. Sounds like a bad or misadjusted TPS to me. It seems if the timing belt had skipped a tooth or the belt was bad (out of adjustment) it would be very slow. Put a timing light on it or pull the plug on the cover and run it up to no. 1 cyl. see if the marks line up. to the pulley.
