Yes, pull the codes as a first step. This can often pin point the problem so that you are not just throwing money at parts on a guess work basis. There are some articles in the FAQs and the Technical Articles sections on how to do this. Please ask if you have questions and let us know what you find.

Yes, by all means run the codes. You do not need a code reader to do this. See the article "retreving EEC codes" on the tech articles page for info on how to do this.

Assuming your new TFI /PIP are good (they are high quality parts, like Motorcraft or KEM, right, not some $29 parts store junk, I hope) I am betting on a bad ECT.

High idling is likely caused by a dirty IAB and / or bad or mis adjusted TPS.

Sorry, I don't log on much here, Im usually on the turboford site under "Julian Wilson" I live in Temple Hills Md. near andrews airforce base anyway, you diff. want to run the codes that will at least point you in the right direction. Im not a expert but I have been all through my turbo coupe a few times over. Mine use to be a auto. if that helps any. email me when you get a chance and maybe you, or I can stop threw and take a look.

i had the same problem with my old 88 turbo coupe(had to push the damn thing 6-7 times out of the way of traffic in one day). i'd make sure the it a good TFI/PIP sensor. also check O2 sensor and make sure the cat is not cloged up (this can happen too). though first thing is first...run the codes.

86 turbo coupe (it's fun beating a honda...with something twice it's size!)
86 SVO (it's amazing what people can screw up)
90 mustang GT (project scratch and dent)

...i'd rather be trolling...
86 turbo coupe (14.12 at 15 psi. sleeper) *gone*

...so you have a V8...isn't that cute...
