Hi

I need some help please.

Just finsihed my swap 88tbird turbo in 88 stang lx. GOT IT STARTED! I am really happy. Awesome engine.....

But when it is running, two things happen.

1. Tranny fluid is pouring out of the bell housing area. There did not seem to be a drain plug in the torque converter when I had the engine out - there was just a hole but I am not sure if there should be a plug or not. Unfortunately I worked with a friend and he took the torque converter out when it was not necessary to do so. Is there supposed to be a drain plug on the torque converter- could I be missing a plug? He said that he did not see one when he took it out. Could it be that the torque converter is not set into the tranny far enough?

I am not sure where the fluid is really coming from exactly but I do know it is coming out of the torque converter cover area. Lost about a quart in a minute run time.

2. Also, Once a second or so, it sounds like there is a relay clicking under the dash (drivers side). It clicks four or five times, stops for a second, than another series of 4 or 5 clicks. Engine runs great though.

Factory Ford torque converters usually have a drain plug. There should be no open holes(I know of) in the converter.

Did the motor and trans meet up together ok or did you have to draw them together with the bellhousing bolts? If you drew them together with the bolts you may have broke the front pump in the trans this would be because the torque converter was not in all of the way when the motor was installed. The torque converter goes onto the input shaft in three steps and should make a clicking sound when fully seated in the A4LD trans. Good luck.

Update:

Torque converter was sitting all the way on input shaft. The problem was the tranny front seal. Replaced it and all is well!

Thanks again...
