I am posting this for my friend, Jim Dronenburg. He is in need of the ABS brake assembly. The motor on his is intermittent, so brakes one minute, none the next. We have done all the tests and have determined that the motor must be the cause of trouble. If you have an ABS unit out of an 87 or 88 TC that yould be willing to sell, PM me shipped price here and I will forward the info to Jim. This is his daily driver that has been down a week and he really needs it going again.

I have seen cases where the pump relay would not work on an unpredictable intermittent basis. Brakes worked great ---- most of the time. My point is that the relay is relatively cheap compared to replacing the MC assy or pump. Also make sure it isn't a wiring issue

Thanks and I agree. We have tested and replaced the relay and even bypassing the relay the motor just hums at times....

I have another ABS Pump assembly that came with an 87 TC I recently got. They thought that it was a pump issue, but it ended up being a power supply issue, so I ended up not needing it. Anyway, what do I need to do to test my spare? do I need to put fill it with brake fluid and connect it, or can I just jump out the motor. If it tests ok, we might be able to work something out.

I am not sure what the proper method to test it would be when not installed on the car. I would guess that what you suggested would be ok, it would pressurize the accumilator and you would just have to let it sit several hours to releave pressure. I'd be a little too chicken to do that though Jim's email address is [email protected] if you want to email him the info on the ABS assy. Thanks a BUNCH!!!
