Help finding out if it is a turbo engine.

I got a engine from a 88 turbocoupe and just found out that the head is not from a turbocoupe it is not D shape on the cumbustion chamber. The vin on the engine is (E3ZE 5015 00) it has a oil drain for the turbo and everything. Also for the head I already ported it and it already went to machine shop and has quite a bit of money into it so can I still use it? I was gonna deshroud the valves so I will be removing quite a bit of material from the cc thanks what do you think.

Don't go over board on unshrouding the valves or you will find additional cooling. You can not take all of the "heart" out of it. I BTDT with an NA head
You can use it but you should get a set of turbo valves to put in it.
If th eblock has the boss drilled fo rth eoil return line it's a good bet it a turbo block. Not unusual to hear that an NA head found it's way to a turbo block, That's how I found out about porting them, too far Big Grin

It does have the boss drilled for the oil return and for the head what is the diffrence in the valves? Also how much compression am I going to have?

Turbo valves are made of a different material to handle the higher heat.

Final compression depend on how much you can get out (without getting too thin - anyplace).

You can find the CC volumes for turbo and NA headshere: http://www.merkurencyclopedia.com/Motor/...rhead.html

The stock NA heads are nominally 9:1 and the stock turbo heads are nominally 8:1

The head had a valve job done so you dont think the valves will handle the heat.

A valve job has nothing to do with the material the valves are made of. I have seen turbo valves crack and chip under exteme conditions. Do you know what a loose piece of valve can do to pistons, the combustion chamber and the cylinder wall? I've seen a split cylinder wall from this kind of scenario. It will also ruin the piston, may damage the head. Didn't you say you got some money in this engine? Do you want to take a chance on NA valves?
