ok well i got my t3 swap done this weekend..somethin stil wasnt rite tho...i checked things and finally i checked ignition timing...it was 18 degrees retarded!!! why i was doin that the car started to act like it wanted to die..idle drop and come back up...did thata couple times then it start...so i went to work ad halfway there it started doing it again...butwhen drivin felt like i was hittin a speed limiter or hittin the brakes hard n fast and the rpms would drop from 2500 to 2000 just ike that and then pick back up,i continued to driveto work puttin up with this, i got there, let it run and it was ok...SO at lunch i wanted to fix my timing,i started i up and drove to back of shop, let it sit an idle while i got exhaust hoses so i could bring inside...i come out and car is dead, wont crank, got jump box and it startd up and puled into shop letting it run.while i was tryin to get socket on hold down bolt it died again and wouldnt start, so ijumped it again and a coworker said it had to be my alt...but mine was somewhat new...so it died again and i looked at the alt. the single power or ground wire was pulled off...it then accidently touched the alt and sparked...so i figured it would fix it in asec, so i tryedto get socket on bolt again and then I HEARD A NOISE AND A PUFF OF SMOKE CAME FROM THE DISTRIBUTOR AND COIL AREA...i laughed it off and finally got socket on bolt..had a guy try to start it but no luck...we fixed the wre goin to alt and tryed and still no luck, so i figured it was the coil...got the girlfriend to buy and bring me one and i tryed after work...still no luck...so what else could it be? ignition module? fusible links(if so which one?) please help i need my car

ok...i swaped ign mod and dead timed the car...still no start...

well still no luck yet, but i did figure out i have no power to the + side of the coil, but i do at the ground...now i followed a LIGHT GREEN/red wire from altenator to a junction where 3 liness goto 1 line...that light green/red line had no continewity(however u spell it) im not exactly sure how to change fuse links cause it looks like on some of them they have 3 to 1 wires, anybody have any wiring diagrams,or tell me what colorst to test, which is hot wire..need halp bad, wana drive car with new t3!

What exactly do you mean you dont have power at the coil pos side, but do at the neg side? That doesnt make much sense. Coil pos side is fed directly from the ignition switch. Neg side of coil goes 2 places... to the TFI (which grounds / ungrounds the neg side to fire the coil) and to the EEC / tach via the IDM circuit. Neither of these 2 circuits have power.

the neg side coil has power , but thepositve side doesnt...i checked with a Fluke Multimeter..neg had 12 volts...pos had no volts

Whenever checking for the presence of 12V wire that has to supply some decent current, like for the coil, NEVER use a DMM, ALWAYS use a test light. A DMM will still indicate 12V even if the circuit has tens of thousands of ohms of resistance due to the 10 meg or 11 meg input resistance of the meter. THis has bit me in the a$$ more than once!

With key on and coil connector plugged in, one side of test light grounded, probe coil pos terminal. Test light should light. Then probe neg terminal. Test light should also light. Crank motor. Test light should flicker on/off if TFI is firing the coil (grounding neg side). If no light on coil pos terminal, check circuit from coil to ig. sw.

If you really have 12V (measured with test light at the neg side of the coil connector (connector off coil), thenn you have abig problem, like an internal short in the TFI, or a short to 12V in the TFI harness or IDM circuit.
