I need help, I'll tell you, I put a 2.3 turbo engine from a 1988 Ford Thunderbird on my Ford Ranger, but I didn't have the vam, I put one from a Mustang, what happened to me when I turn it on, I seat it to the top but it doesn't accelerate until like in a few minutes. It starts to accelerate then it accelerates well and everything but I put speed and release the clutch and it accelerated and does not lift then the exhaust manifold with the turbine turns red I only lived the part of the muffler Someone who can help me I thank you very much in advance Thank you so much

Well Sergio, It sounds like you have some issues going on here, from what I gather in your description is that the car will not increase in RPM's (Accelerate?) but when it does it will not decrease in RPM's (does not lift?) and you have a glowing turbo manifold. I am pretty sure you cannot simply use any VAM with any computer, you need the matching VAM and ECU to run correct. What kind of Mustang did you get the VAM from? Year? Turbo? Get us some more details and we can sort it out

What PCM are you running? LA, LA2, LA3, LB2, LB3, 8UA, PE or a standalone?

There were 2 different VAMs Ford used in the mid/late 80s. The "big" VAM used on the 87-88 TC and the "small" VAM used in 2.3 non turbo applications. The transfer functions for the 2 VAMs are significantly different and they are not interchangeable.

LA3 requires the "big" VAM. Measure the diameter of the VAM air inlet. It should be 3 inches in diameter if you have the "big" VAM.

It looks like you need a Big VAM then to get it to work correctly together
