Hello everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself and share some pics of my new (it's new to me)1986 TC. I found it on Craigslist as a parts car. I went to look at it just for the engine for our Chump Car racecar project (another story) When I looked it over, I couldn't beleive how good of a condition it was in.
The previous owner never got around to fixing the broken gas tank straps and after sitting in his shed for 12 years he decided to put it up for sale ....for parts. I gladly paid him the $250 he was asking and towed her home.
The pics are of it in the guys shed and after a good bath.

Thanx for the welcome everyone.
As for the gas tank straps, It turns out it's a little more complicated then just the straps. The sheet metal "humps" that the straps bolt to are rusted away. I'll have to fab some new ones and weld in, then install new straps. I'll probably install a new pump and sender since the tank is out.
Also I changed the oil/filter and installed a battery but it doesn't turn over. I was able to turn it over with a socket on the crank, so somethings messed up with the starter/solenoid. I'll keep ya all posted.

Check for corrosion in the various cables. I was amazed how just a little corrosion stopped mine dead, no crank at all, just over a couple days sitting time. Clean the ground too.

Turns out it was corrosion. Rust to be more precise. The front of the starter was so rusted it made a direct short from the pos terminal to ground (the case). I got a starter from the salvage yard and now it cranks over like, well, something that cranks over really fast.
Anyway, I got new tank straps, new pump/pickup assembly and new lock rings. I'm going to paint the tank with POR-15 to maybe slow the rust. Not much on it, but I figure what the heck, as long as its out.
