Heat issue?

I posted this on FB as well.

I have Electronic Climate Control. The A/C has been updated using the Ranger parts I believe. It wasn't me that did it.

Problem- Heat does not work.

Observations-
-The dash temperature gage does not go above the first white line. Sometimes while running it will go up and back down.

-Every 20-30 seconds the A/C pump and the upper passenger side cooling fan kick on.

Actions
I replaced the Thermostat and ensured the coolant was topped off.

I unplugged the fan and the temp went up (half way on the gage)and the heat worked. The A/C compressor stopped cycling. However the lights on the electronic climate control began to flash?

I plugged the fan back it did not come back on. I shut the car off and turned it back on and the fan began to cycle and the temp crashed and heat stopped?

The next morning I attempted this again. I could not get the lights to flash on the control again. I unplugged the upper passenger fan and was able to get the temp to go up to half way and the heat was lowing hot. The lower fan came on and everything cooled off again. I plugged everything in and ran it again and the temp never climbed and the heat did not work?

What brand thermostat did you install? Many aftermarket ones are junk and dont seal well when closed and / or dont open at the stated temperature. Also, if it isnt installed just right, coolant can leak thru around the rubber gasket on the thermostat.

I installed stock spec thermostat. I don't think that is the issue. There was no heat with the old and the new.

Have you flushed the heater core? Maybe it's so full of years of crud that it takes some decent heat in the coolant to transfer to the metal.
The gauge sucks. Mine almost never moves, but with a new heater core, I have zero problems warming up the interior.
Are you sure the electric motor that switches the blend door on the ac/heater box is operating? Maybe you are permanently stuck with the cold side open. I'm not a big fan of my auto climate. If I had to do it over again, I would remove it and install a manual system.
Your ac will operate with the system on automatic or in manual if you don't turn it off.

I think the problem is in the electric control because sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. But also the car seems to heat up and cool down?
