Rob,
Funny you mentioned that your face plate doesn't fit. Mine had the same issue as I didn't want to cut up the original plastic trim pices and I walso wanted the radio to "sit back in" kind of like stock. I have it sitting back like stock using the factory Ford mount brackets that I removed from my factory radio and mounted them to my new JVC HU. It sits in the perfect spot, but I had a small area around the bottom that I could see under the radio. I went to the hardware store and bought a roll of self adhesive foam insulating material, in I think a !/4 or 3/8" size. Stuck it to the bottom of the HU and it fills in the gap nicely and is grey like the factory surround. Not perfect, but it works.

I stopped by the dollar store and ran in to grab a flexible black plastic duotang type thing as it is nice thin black plastic. I'm going to cut out a rectangle piece probably big enough to reach the mounting screws to hold it, then use the piece that came with the stereo to trace a cut out for the face of the stereo to fit in.
LOVING the new stereo, wish I had done thins the day I got the car. Now I can easily play music loud enough to not hear the exhaust which is all but toast, the annoying chirping sound that I think I have read is the clutch forks, the wind noise from the sunroof, and the various other small annoying sounds!
I am considering disconnecting the dash speaker. I only have one and is ever overpowering. Unfortunately it's the driver side, I can't even remember how I was ever in there before, not much room between the grill and the windshield.

To get the drivers side dash speaker out, I used a 1/4 drive 1/4" socket with a Philips bit in it. It is a pain for sure.

I was reading thinking I could help out being an audio guy who has hacked decks to provide a line in back in the early 90's when they were rare. Anyway of course happy to see the issue resolved, was ready to go out and make a video as my stereo is still all stock with EQ.

Anyway comparing the system to today's standards isn't fair. However going back to the 80's this system was amazing! Very rare for an 80's car (no matter what brand) to have six speakers with a 7 band graphic equalizer, with a VU LED meter that you could turn off and on as you liked!
If a car had an EQ (extremely rare) it was a 5 band, not 7 like the TC's. I remember a few of my friends having 80's Mustang GT's another with a Mustang SVO and another with a Trans AM GTA and their stock sound systems did not sound as good. The GTA did have a 5 band eq, but it was a 1/4 of the size of the TC's eq and not easy to adjust or get the sound you wanted.

Custom 2.75" stainless steel mandrel exhaust, cross drilled rotors (KVR), 245 50 ZR Eagle F1 GS-D3 (front & rear). This tire works amazing with the PRC. Wet or Dry! Lowered 1.75 inches

Just a FYI. I replaced the original wire in my 88 TC since I had intermittent sounds so I replaced the wires.

The only bummer is I couldn't get everything to work with the factory EQ.
Publicity, fame and accolades can make a theory popular. They can't make it true.
