If your goal is to kill your brain cells and permanently damage your hearing, then yes, running just a downpipe is a huge help. Do yourself (and your neighbors) a long-term favor and finish the exhaust off with at least a catalytic converter and some means to rid the exhaust gases from underneath the car. You'll thank yourself 20 years from now.
As for 1/4 mile times, I was running very low 15's at around 89-90mph with nothing more than a k&n and a gillis valve set to 19-20psi on the ihi.

ok i ran my car with glasspacks and no cat for almost 2 years now, and well i put a cat back on this Friday to pass emissions, and now my car is better for street driving, i have more low end torque and the sound inside is toned down, i used to have to cranked my radio up to about 67 (awia cd playe,r no amp to front speakers) at 80mph, now i can have it at 50 and hear it perfectly fine, a cat is the best thing, i mean i got mine at cost and put it on in 15mins(i work at exhaust shop) so its not a big deal for me, but spend the 200 or so and get it back on there, most aftermarket cat, or universal ones the exhuast shops use are high flow cats compared to OEM ones, and IMO better for the car, and in Jersey it’s a 2,200 dallor fien for nto having a cat on you car,

Maybe I should put my exhaust back on too...I had a leak where the straight pipe is so I just removed it completely and bolted on a turndown, now its just open downpipe. It so loud it rings your ears and you'll wanna drive with windows open so you don't kill yourself. Other than that, the turbo sounds great! Maybe I should reconsider doing that to save myself from loosing hearing later on in life...
