hi all, just want to say hey and post a question. just purchased a 87 tc with alot of miles. 173000 to be exact. but, it runs pretty good. the usual stuff with a worn in car. the question is, does the temp sending unit controll the fan. (pretty sure it does, but i gotta ask the pros). i put in after market gauges to see actual temps. the car does not want to run cool. did a little trouble shooting and traced it to the fan. i can re wire the fan, but would like to remain stock if possible. any help would be appreciated. frank

Wire in a switch to the fan. That way you can control the fan whenever you want.
I believe Jeff K has the details on doing that.
Your TC doesn't have that many miles....
Mine has only 213,000 on it!
Never rebuilt.
Good luck

The temp gauge sending unit does not control the fans. The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor controls the fans and is located between # 2 and 3 fuel injector on the lower intake manifold. Best to pull the codes and see if a code for that sensor comes up. See pulling codes without a scanner under Electrical in the FAQ's. you can test the fans themselves by pulling the connector off the ECT and jumpering it and starting the engine. They should both run. Also check the wiring and the connectors at each fan.
