My guy that services my dyno came by today to service it. He informed me that the state emission contract expires in 2010. And the new contract will not include an asm 25 25 spin emission test on cars that are 1995 or older. They are going OBD2 1996 and newer only. Trucks after 1996 over 8600 will get an idle 2500 neutral test. That means NO MORE TAIL PIPE SNIFFING TESTS FOR US TC GUYS HURRAY. Big Grin Smile Smile Cool Wink

Do you know if this applies to any states besides CT?

Hi bill it appears that this will expand to other states. It is costing to much money to run the system this way. And non OBD2 cars are almost 15 years old. Most people dont own cars older than 10 years old. So the states are looking to cut costs and eliminate testing of non OBD2 vehicles. Lets wait and see. Big Grin

I hope so, I get tired of having to reset the timing every year just to pass the emissions test.

NY state has only the OBDII for emmisions (cept NYC area) and never had sniff tests. Over 8600 lbs just safety insp. A visual inspection of smog equipment for 95 and down , more than 26 yrs old just get safety insp. We have to use a special computor but all in all it works nice and cuts down on paper work.

I know that is one of the tricks to help pass emissions. But I don't think I have ever reset timing to do it and I run 12-13 all the time.

HI PETE very good answer i was going over some ford tune up specks on the 2.3, And what do you know some manuals actually list the 2.3 turbo timing at 12* to 13* BTDC factory setting. I always thought it was 10* but according to motorcraft specs its 12* to 13*. Totally blew me away. It may be for a denver car (etc). But it clearly did not say that.

I've seen the 10* thing listed in the 88 Ford service manuals. I don'tthink I've seen the other figures, but I haven't looked at other manuals too close.

Great news 44. The states are giving up on cars now its diesels. We are in the process of retro fitting cats and spherical filters on diesels. I am very happy for the work but it's a big scam. I am very shocked MA is jumping on the band wagon with exempting older cars. We call MA TAX ACHAUSIC. Thanks for the info 44 Smile Smile Big Grin Big Grin
